12/11/15

when the hurricaine
falls silent beyond the storm door,
green eerie slash of sunlight:
momentary stillness feigns death
like the white belly of a snake

12/10/15

mid-morning sunlight
slants through the chain link
like the fat blade of a cleaver;
a falling knife has no handle,
I have no name for these hours

8/23/14

the well of his mouth
hollowed to cloudless sky
moaning in drought;
buckets of warm milk drawn
and split from his throat, soured

8/22/14

motheaten limestone
gone lacy from rain, years
of wind-whipped hilltops
sugarcubes dissolve, we forget
the names of dead neighbors

8/21/14

federal street boogie
jitney drivers, dinner rush
pocketchange jingle
shake a tailfeather, carry
a case of beer down the street

8/17/14

mechanical clicks;
splint-knee automaton
radios the dusk
his elegant chameleon stride
the shaky flashlight beam

8/16/14

Hour of sun and grass,
Leaf hopper punctuation
Dotting bent pages.
Book splayed on my chest, today
I am nobody's mother.
